How It Works:

Our tool breaks your wedding planning into six critical phases based on industry-standard vendor timelines. Here is a deeper look into why these milestones are structured the way they are:

Phase 1: 12+ Months Out (The Foundation)

This is the most critical phase. Do not buy a dress or pick colors until you have nailed down your total budget and secured your venue. Venues book up 12 to 18 months in advance, especially for peak fall and spring dates. Once the venue is locked, your actual wedding date is officially set.

Phase 2: 9–11 Months Out (The VIP Vendors)

With the date and location set, you need to book the vendors who can only work one wedding a day. This means securing your top-choice photographer, videographer, and live band or DJ. This is also the time to order your wedding dress, as custom bridal gowns can take up to 9 months to be made and shipped.

Phase 3: 6–8 Months Out (Guest Prep & Design)

It is time to give your guests a heads-up. Mail your Save-the-Dates, especially if you are having a destination wedding or marrying on a holiday weekend. You should also finalize your floral design, book hair and makeup artists, and lock in the bridal party attire.

Phase 4: 3–5 Months Out (The Logistics)

Order your formal invitations and wedding bands. Groomsmen need to get fitted for their suits or tuxedos. You should also be booking the rehearsal dinner venue and starting your first round of bridal gown alterations.

Phase 5: 1–2 Months Out (The Final Countdown)

Mail your invitations at the 8-week mark. This phase is all about the paperwork and final details: apply for your marriage license, have your final dress fitting, and create the day-of timeline to distribute to your vendor team.

Phase 6: The Week Of (Handing Off)

The hard work is done. Give your caterer the final headcount, pack an emergency kit, and prepare your vendor tips in labeled envelopes. Hand off all decor and schedules to your month-of coordinator so you can actually enjoy your big day.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if I have less than 12 months to plan?

Don't panic! You can absolutely plan a beautiful wedding in 3 to 6 months; you simply need to compress the timeline. Focus on securing your venue and catering first, buy an "off-the-rack" dress instead of a custom order, and send digital invitations to save mailing time.

When should I set my RSVP deadline?

We recommend setting your RSVP deadline 3 to 4 weeks before your wedding date. Your caterer will usually require the final headcount 10 to 14 days before the event, so this gives you a week to track down guests who forgot to reply.
