What's Inside
Your wedding entrance sets the tone for everything that follows. It is the very first thing your guests see when they arrive, and it is the moment you and your partner walk through to begin the rest of your lives. That is a lot of weight for a doorway to carry. But here is the good news: you do not need a massive budget to make it feel like a million dollars. When I planned my lakeside wedding at our family’s summer house in northern Wisconsin back in 2008, the entrance was the one place I refused to cut corners on, and it paid off. Guests were still talking about it at the end of the night.
Whether you are working with a barn, a backyard, a ballroom, or a rented venue, there is a wedding entrance decor idea on this list for you. Some of these will cost you under $50. A couple will require a rental company. All of them will make your guests stop walking and actually look around. That is exactly what a great wedding entrance is supposed to do.
1. A Floral Archway At The Venue Entrance

This is the big one, and honestly it earns its reputation. A floral archway installed right at the entrance to your venue or ceremony space tells guests immediately: this is a wedding, and it is a beautiful one. You do not have to go full overflowing English garden to make it work. Even a simple metal arch from Amazon (the EFAVORMART Heavy Duty backdrop stand runs about $40) draped with eucalyptus garland and a few clusters of white roses is stunning. If your florist is quoting you over $800 for an arch, ask them what a more minimal version looks like. Most florists have a version for every budget.
2. A Wedding Entrance Sign On A Mirror

A leaning mirror with calligraphy wedding entrance sign on it is one of those ideas that photographs beautifully and takes almost no effort to pull off. Rent a large gold or antique silver mirror from a local rental company, hire a calligrapher on Etsy (most charge between $75 and $150 for a painted mirror), and lean it against the wall near the entrance with a small cluster of flowers at its base. Done. If renting is not in the budget, you can buy a large unframed mirror from IKEA for around $60 and spray paint the frame yourself. Just get it in writing from your venue that you can bring in a leaning piece that tall before you commit.
3. Lanterns Lining The Walkway To The Ceremony

This one is simple and it works every single time. Line the path leading to your ceremony with lanterns and battery-powered candles. You can mix heights by pairing tall lanterns with short ones, or keep them all the same for a cleaner look. At my own wedding, we used about 20 lanterns we found at garage sales and filled them with pillar candles. It cost us next to nothing and the pictures from that walkway are some of my favorites from the whole day. Target and Amazon both carry sets of lanterns starting around $15 to $25 each. Battery candles are safer for outdoor settings and most guests will never notice the difference anyway.
4. A Personalized Neon Wedding Sign

Neon wedding signs have taken over Pinterest for good reason. They add a really fun and modern edge to rustic and country settings, and they double as an incredible photo backdrop right at the entrance to your reception. A custom neon sign with your last name or a phrase like “Better Together” runs between $150 and $300 on Etsy depending on size and seller. Some couples hang theirs over the entrance doorway, others place it on a greenery wall just inside the venue. Either way, guests are going to want a photo with it. Plan for that and it becomes part of the entertainment too.
5. A Welcome To Our Wedding Table At The Entrance

A well-styled entrance table pulls double duty. It welcomes guests and it keeps them organized. Place your seating chart or escort cards on it, add a small floral arrangement, a framed welcome sign, and maybe a basket of programs. If you really want to make it special, set out a small basket of flip-flops for the dance floor or a jar of mints. The wedding entrance table does not have to be elaborate but it does need to look intentional. A chiffon table runner and a simple linen tablecloth will take any folding table from rental company to reception-ready in about five minutes.
6. Twinkle Lights Overhead Along The Entrance Path

There is almost no decor choice that photographs better at an outdoor wedding than overhead twinkle lights. String them between two rows of shepherds hooks along the path from the parking area to your venue entrance and it looks like guests are walking into a fairy tale. You can buy 200-foot strands of commercial-grade string lights on Amazon for around $30 to $50 each. You will probably need two or three strands depending on how long your walkway is. If your venue already has trees on either side of the path, even better. You can hang the lights from branches and skip the shepherds hooks entirely.
7. Pampas Grass And Greenery At The Ceremony Entrance

Pampas grass has had a real moment in the wedding world and it is still going strong, especially for boho and outdoor weddings. A pair of large pampas grass arrangements flanking the entrance to your ceremony space creates an instant backdrop that feels both elevated and effortless. You can buy dried pampas grass bundles on Amazon or Etsy starting around $20 to $30 per bunch, and they hold up all day without any water. Pair them with some dried white bunny tail grass and a few stems of dried lavender and you have a full boho entrance look for well under $100. Even better: you get to keep them after the wedding as home decor.
8. Vintage Barn Doors As A Ceremony Backdrop Entrance

If you are having a barn wedding or a rustic outdoor wedding, vintage barn doors as an entrance backdrop are one of the most stunning ideas you can execute. Some venues already have them built in, which saves you a ton of planning headache. If yours does not, check with local rental companies that specialize in rustic wedding props. Drape the doors with fresh greenery garland and hang a simple wooden sign from the center. The contrast of the weathered wood and the lush greenery is exactly the kind of thing that gets pinned thousands of times. It looks expensive and most of the time it really is not.
9. A Welcome Sign Surrounded By Florals On A Wood Stand

A wooden welcome sign propped on a stand or easel and surrounded by fresh florals is one of those classic wedding entrance decor pieces that never really goes out of style. It is also one of the easiest to personalize. You can have a sign made on Etsy for $40 to $80, or if someone in your family has any woodworking ability at all, it is a fantastic DIY project. Lean it on a stand at the entrance to your ceremony or reception, cluster some flowers and greenery around the base, and you are done. Simple, beautiful, and guests know exactly where they are and whose wedding they are at.
10. Ribbon Or Fabric Streamers Along The Ceremony Aisle

This one is severely underused and I do not understand why. Tying long ribbon streamers or chiffon fabric strips to the end of every other aisle chair creates movement and color all the way down your ceremony entrance. It costs almost nothing, it is easy to DIY the morning of the wedding, and it photographs beautifully in the breeze. Use ribbon that matches your wedding colors or go with neutral ivory and white for a soft, romantic look. A 100-yard spool of satin ribbon on Amazon runs about $8 to $12. You probably need two or three spools depending on how long your aisle is. That is a full aisle makeover for under $40.
11. Potted Florals Or Succulents Lining The Entrance Path

Instead of cut flowers in vases, consider lining your entrance walkway with potted plants. Small potted succulents, lavender, or white impatiens in terracotta pots look absolutely charming and they double as wedding favors at the end of the night. Guests can grab a pot on their way out and take home a living piece of your wedding. If you go this route, label each pot with a small tag that says something like “Favors, please take one!” so guests know they are meant to be taken. Buying small succulents in bulk from a local nursery or Trader Joe’s will get you the best price, usually around $3 to $5 per pot.
12. A Sequin Or Linen Backdrop Behind The Entrance Table

If your entrance table is inside the venue rather than outdoors, a backdrop panel behind it takes the whole display from “nice” to “wow.” A sequin backdrop panel in gold or champagne hangs from a simple stand and catches the light in a way that makes every photo near it look incredible. You can rent sequin backdrop panels from most event design companies, or buy them outright on Amazon for around $25 to $40 each. If your wedding has a more natural or rustic feel, a linen or macrame panel works just as well and gives a softer look. Either way, it frames the entrance table and gives guests a focal point the minute they walk in.
13. A Floral Hoop Or Geometric Frame As A Ceremony Entrance Accent

This is the idea most brides have not seen yet, which is exactly why it is worth saving. A large brass or gold geometric frame, or a simple wooden hoop decorated with flowers and trailing greenery, positioned at the entrance to your ceremony space looks like something from a styled editorial shoot. The whole thing is actually incredibly easy to DIY. You can buy a large wooden embroidery hoop for under $15, wrap it in floral wire, and attach flowers and greenery directly to it. Hang it from a shepherd’s hook, a tree branch, or a rental frame at the entrance to your aisle. It is minimal, modern, and still feels romantic. And nobody else at your venue this season will have one.
The entrance to your wedding is the first impression and it is absolutely worth putting some real thought into. But just like every other part of the planning process, you do not have to do it all at once. Pick two or three ideas from this list that fit your venue, your style, and your budget, and do those things really well. That is honestly all it takes. Your guests will feel it the minute they walk in, and so will you.
